Dynamite Activities with 4-H’ers Wanted

Have you tried an educational activity that went so well with your 4-H’ers that you’re willing to share? This could be at a club or project meeting or special event.  If you would write this up to share with other volunteers across the country, please submit to this web site and we’ll post it.  Be sure to tell what materials you need, how many youth, preparation time in advance, how long the activity will take and how to do it.

Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award for 2008 - Western Region, Bill Estes,  Tucson, Arizona

Bill Estes of Tucson, Ariz., is being named the 2008 Western Region 4‑H Salute to Excellence Volunteer of the Year at the Western Region 4-H Leader Forum, March 6-9, 2008 in Boise, Idaho. Estes was chosen due to his exceptional contributions as a volunteer with the Arizona 4‑H Youth Development program. He will receive a plaque and a check for $200 to help toward his 4-H volunteer efforts. 

Selected by the 2008 4-H Salute to Excellence Award Selection Committee for his commitment as a 9-year volunteer with Pima County 4-H, Estes has helped many 4-H youth develop leadership and citizenship skills and has left a lasting impact on many 4-H members.

“[The youth] stay on because through Bill’s leadership they feel they are wanted and belong to this group,” said Bob Peterson, Pima County 4-H Agent. “He has a high percentage of older youth, because they are involved, feel important and are making decisions for the future of the club.”

A great role model to all, Bill is deeply passionate about 4-H and supports youth to reach their full potential. Many of his club members attribute their commitment to the 4-H program to Estes. Through his dedication and leadership, Estes’ youth are now participating in numerous statewide leadership camps.

South Dakota 4-H Joins Monsanto to Support 4-H at Statewide Volunteer Forum 

Nearly 150 4-H volunteers are gathering on Saturday, April 5^th at the Codington County Extension Complex in Watertown for this year’s South Dakota 4-H Volunteer Forum. South Dakota 4-H Extension Educator Sonia Mack said the event, open to South Dakota's youth and adult volunteer leaders, will provide participants with workshops on leadership recruitment, retention and innovative programming. MORE
